Last Friday night I an enkai with Kori and I had a pretty good time, but towards the end I found out that young gym teacher is ENGAGED!! WHAT?! In case you were wondering, I don't understand this culture either. It is certain that no one knew that he had a steady girlfriend, let along a girlfriend, for I KNOW that any teacher who ever teased us about dating would have better taste had they known about his girlfriend. Whatever, Megamega pointed out that he knew the way of his faults, for I was sitting with him and the cool motherly math teacher. She said, "he's getting married" and I said, "to whom?!" and he lied with "[math teacher's name]" and RAN AWAY because he knows he feels shame for not mentioning his steady girlfriend once in the year that we've known eachother. tsk, tsk, Japan.
But I came home back to Jesse who console me and agreed that Japan can be screwy at times. On Saturday we drove to Yufuin!! to stay at the excellent ryokan I stayed at with the girls last Decemberween. We did fun things and ate LOTS of samples ("bow to your senbei" HAHAHAHA) Then on Sunday we took a road trip and headed just 20 minutes more east to the other coast of Kyushu (Jesse was like, "this island is tiny, isn't it. it takes 3 hours coast to coast in MY car, which can't top 90km/hr and stays usually around 80 km/hr) Here are some classy
Today was opening ceremony and all the new little students were still looking like elementary students despite their oversized uniforms with long sleeves. The boys are more hilarious looking than the girls. I made myself really busy with the other 1st year teachers (as I sit with them) and figured out their secret hiding places without having to be told. I'm very much looking forward to this school year!!!
And now it's already my bedtime!! I am going to rabu the hip hop a little more (Jesse was playing DJ on my ipod during the car ride and reminded me that I've got lots of good hip hop albums that need listening to), and then I'm going to watch at least on episode of The Tick!!! SPOOOOOON!
